Do salt lamps do anything:

Well: here is something that I picked up from the British press:

Salt Lamp sold by Crystalite Salt
CLAIM: Negative ions are produced when you heat the salt rock that removes harmful positive ions produced by artificial electromagnetic waves
REALITY: The representative could not answer specific questions and pointed the scientist to the internet. When the physicist contacted the 'Amazing Health' website for concrete evidence she was told to 'try one and see for yourself.'

Concluding their report the team said: "The Voice of Young Science network has published this snapshot to encourage more people, from all avenues of science and indeed walks of life, to take part in actively challenging misinformation."
Peter Atkins, chemistry professor at Oxford University said: "The public is well served by scientists prepared to spend time exposing scientific nonsense...they should be applauded for acting as warriors against claptrap."

seems to say: salt lamps do not " work ".....all I can say is I have a house full and since I have had them I have not had any throat problems...so they wok for me.
try some they are on offer on my site http://crystalrocksaltlamp.com

I came across the following and thought that it might be interesting...seeing that we are near Christmas!

Eating Disorders - Binge Eating Is On The Increase
by Kerris Samson

In the last few years the medical community has finally begun to recognize that just like bulimia and anorexia, bingeing is also an eating disorder. Yet we are all aware of what a person does when they are bulimic or anorexic, but very few actually under the implications relating to eating disorders like binge eating. Where as with the other two a person will either not eat sufficient amounts of food, or will eat food and then try to purge it from their body as soon as possible. With binge eating these problems are simply not there and so it is a completely different kind of eating disorder compared to the others.

In fact it is because the person seems to be eating that many people often do not realize that the sufferer is actually having a problem. In fact for many what they see is that they have the choice about what food they eat as well as having control over their bodies.

Yet even though when bingeing and person is not either starving themselves or placing their health under serious risk through the use of laxatives or from vomiting. This particular eating disorder can still cause serious repercussions where a person's health is concerned.

Those people who choose to constantly eat large amounts of food will then place a considerable amount of strain on to their digestive system and their body. In a large number cases those who tend to binge eat find that they are more prone to weight gain and in some cases will be extremely unhealthy.

When it comes to binge eating the biggest problem that those who suffer from this problem is that they do not actually realize that it is a problem. In many cases to avoid others realizing what is happening they will do their binge eating in secret, along with eating more food than would be considered normal. This is because they feel that they have complete control over the situation.

With most eating disorders the biggest challenge that sufferers of these will have to face is actually admitting to themselves that they have a problem in the first place. They try to ignore the problem because they do not want to admit that they do not have any control over their life.

Although we all sometimes eat more than we should this is completely different from what a person does when they are binge eating. Unfortunately for a binge eater they just do not have any control over how much food they actually eat along with when and what they actually do eat.

Although health problems such as weight gain are relatively minor when it comes to binge eating. It is the psychological problems, which are the more worrying side effect associated with this particular eating disorder. In fact in many cases those that binge eat will often dismiss the problem as nothing more than a habit they have got into or it part of whom they are and something they have chosen for themselves.

Keep a sharp blade

Imagine walking up to a man trying to chop down a tree in the forest.
He's struggling with all his might and yet he's barely made any progress.
You look at him and you see that he is chopping at the tree vigorously and he's been at it for quite some time and he's intent on getting the tree to down.
He has a single focus and is using all the proper leverage and perfect technique, but as you get close you see there is one thing out of place. He's using a dull blade.

You say to the man . . . "Hey buddy why don't you just sharpen your blade, you'll get the job done twice as fast?"

He replies . . . "No time, can't you see I'm trying to chop down this tree?"

Well, . . It is like this with your health.....we are too busy living that we do not stop to live right . . Wouldn't a sharper blade make that struggle a whole lot easier?

This is all about your health....now is the time of year to take stock and sharpen your " health blade"

Take time out to plan to eat right and excise.

Salt lamps on line

The shops are heaving at the moment. Leaving the comfort and safety of your own home is something that shouldn't be undertaken lightly.

Folks, it's not pretty out there. There is madness in the malls.
Why they put themselves through the annual torture of Christmas shopping.

The shops are crowded, the stock is boring, the queues are long and getting longer as each day brings us closer to Christmas.

Tempers are frayed, patience is stretched and the prices are absurd. Why, do you do it?

Why put yourself through all that when you could just as easily go online and buy almost everything you can find in the mall safely, quietly, conveniently and more often than not, more cheaply?

Why do it? That's what the Internet is for, for goodness sake.

Online shopping is the future,

Go any where except the shops.....now is the time;

salt lamps have a similar effect to the ionizer

The salt crystal lamps have a similar effect to the ionizer. However, the natural ionization of a crystal lamp cannot be compared to an ionizer. A salt crystal lamp can only have an ionization effect. However, salt crystal lamps have many advantages in many aspects and improve the general atmosphere of a room.

If the lamp is next to a television or computer monitor, it's effect, through its electromagnetic field, of the device is in approximately the 100-160Hz zone. Our brain waves however, produce only 8Hz according to the Schuman resonance frequency. Therefore, the body is exposed to up to 20 times higher frequency patterns than it is generally used to. The consequences of this exposure results in nervousness, insomnia and lack of concentration or concentration weaknesses. In addition, there will be an accumulation of more free radicals in the body, known to be a cause of cancer.

The salt crystal lamp binds the negative ions with the excess positive ions. When the lamp becomes warm, it absorbs moisture and the crystal will be damp on the surface. This builds up the ion field. Through the lamp, the positively charged atmosphere of a room can be neutralized.

In addition to this, the colors of the salt crystal stones have a healing effect. The therapeutic value of the colored crystals can reorganize the epidermal layer of our skin. Tests made with kids having ADHD symptoms have shown that after only one week of exposure to crystal salt lamps, their symptoms subsided. After removing the lamps, the symptoms returned.

"Without enough negative ions, we are quite literally working ourselves to death and the thing is: we don't even realize it . Yet the technology now exists to replace the body's load, to support the immune system, and to promote not just a long life, but a strong, vital life."*

"The emission of ions is primarily caused by the alternating actions of the salt's ability to first absorb water, then evaporate it. To explain this more precisely, the heated salt crystal attracts the water molecules from the ambient air to its surface. The salt goes into a solution as it mixes with the water molecules. Sodium, as the positively charged ion, and chloride, as a negatively charged ion, becomes neutral and are emitted back into the environment.
The uniqueness of this ion emission interrelation is only possible with the mineral salt, since salt possesses this transformation ability with water due to it's electrically neutral atomic structure. Scientific investigations of the last decades proved clearly that a balanced ion relationship with a little surplus of negative ions, can have extremely positive affects on our entire physical condition and our health."

Air Purifiers, Illness Reducers, Relaxation Inducers and Energy Enhancers:
are just some of the commonly associated words to describe Himalayan crystal lamps.

People across the U.S. are raving about the unique, natural health benefits supplied by these natural pieces of rock salt. And for good reason.

Himalayan rock crystal salt naturally permeate the air with negative ions, neutralizing positive ions.

People tend to regard positive ions as having a "positive" effect on the environment. But in actuality, positive ions are synonymous with airborne allergies, computer radiation, carcinogens, and otherwise unnatural air contaminates. The more positive ions the more "negative" effect it is having on the body.

The importance of a salt lamp lies in its unique ability to absorb water particles from the air and release them in the form of beneficial, air enhancing particles. The effects of pristine Himalayan rock can be an invaluable improvement to overall health and well-being. To find out more, visit:crystalrocksaltlamp.comfor our pre-chrsitmass offers

Vital Functions of Salt in the Body

Vital Functions of Salt in the Body
Salt is most effective in stabilizing irregular heartbeats and, Contrary to the misconception that it causes high blood pressure, it is actually essential for the regulation of blood pressure - in conjunction with water. Naturally the proportions are critical.

Salt is vital to the extraction of excess acidity from the cells in the body, particularly the brain cells.

Salt is vital for balancing the sugar levels in the blood; a needed element in diabetics.

Salt is vital for the generation of hydroelectric energy in cells in the body. It is used for local power generation at the sites of energy need by the cells.

Salt is vital to the nerve cells' communication and information processing all the time that the brain cells work, from the moment of conception to death.

Salt is vital for absorption of food particles through the intestinal tract.

Salt is vital for the clearance of the lungs of mucus plugs and sticky phlegm, particularly in asthma and cystic fibrosis.

Salt is vital for clearing up catarrh and congestion of the sinuses.

Salt is a strong natural antihistamine.

Salt is essential for the prevention of muscle cramps.

Salt is vital to prevent excess saliva production to the point that it flows out of the mouth during sleep. Needing to constantly mop up excess saliva indicates salt shortage.

Salt is absolutely vital to making the structure of bones firm. Osteoporosis, in a major way, is a result of salt and water shortage in the body.

Salt is vital for sleep regulation. It is a natural hypnotic.

Salt is a vitally needed element in the treatment of diabetics.
Salt on the tongue will stop persistent dry coughs.

Salt is vital for the prevention of gout and gouty arthritis.

Salt is vital for maintaining sexuality and libido.

Salt is vital for preventing varicose veins and spider veins on the legs and thighs.

Salt is vital to the communication and information processing nerve cells the entire time that the brain cells work - from the moment of conception to death.

Salt is vital for reducing a double chin.

When the body is short of salt, it means the body really is short of water. The salivary glands sense the salt shortage and are obliged to produce more saliva to lubricate the act of chewing and swallowing and also to supply the stomach with water that it needs for breaking down foods. Circulation to the salivary glands increases and the blood vessels become "leaky" in order to supply the glands with water to manufacture saliva. The "leakiness" spills beyond the area of the glands themselves, causing increased bulk under the skin of the chin, the cheeks and into the neck.

Sea salt contains about 80 mineral elements that the body needs. Some of these elements are needed in trace amounts. Unrefined sea salt is a better choice of salt than other types of salt on the market. Ordinary table salt that is bought in the super markets has been stripped of its companion elements and contains additive elements such as aluminum silicate to keep it powdery and porous. Aluminum is a very toxic element in our nervous system. It is implicated as one of the primary causes of Alzheimer's disease.

Twenty-seven percent of the body's salt is in the bones. Osteoporosis results when the body needs more salt and takes it from the body. Bones are twenty-two percent water. Is it not obvious what happens to the bones when we're deficient in salt or water or both.

* The information on salt intake is taken from Dr. Batmanghelidj's book, "Water: Rx for a Healthier Pain-Free Life".

Too much salt

How about this bit of news

High Blood Pressure: Salt in our food is a major cause, but don’t tell the FDA
18 October 2007
Salt in our food is a major cause of high blood pressure (hypertension) – but it’s news to the American food industry. There, salt intake from food has increased by 50 per cent since 1970 – and it’s reckoned that 90 per cent of Americans will suffer from hypertension some time in their lives.

The blame can be placed at the door of America’s drug regulator, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which has decreed that salt is “generally recognised as safe”.

Their position, say researchers, is out of step with similar bodies in the UK, Ireland, Finland and Australia, which have all set national targets for lowering salt intake, and have encouraged food manufacturers to comply with voluntary regulations.
If the FDA followed suit, manufacturers would have to get approval before adding salt to food, and the FDA would also have to set agreed limits.

Researchers reckon that around 150,000 lives could be saved every year in America if the nation halved its salt intake.

The Salt pipe is the modern way to experience salt therapy and has no known side effects.

For centuries, salts have been used as folk remedies by many different cultures in regions around the World.
Today people suffering from respiratory disorders travel to curative mines such as Wieliczka in Poland, Hallein in Austria or Praid in Romania. Or they visit seaside locations for high humidity, salty air. Healing therapies using salt to ease respiratory problems may involve inhaling salt brine vapour, gargling with brine or using rock salt combined with essential oils for inhalation. Rock salt is available from:http://www.crystalrocksaltlamp.com/site/1351713/product/16
for use as an aid to easing respiratory problems.

Now you can achieve the benefits of salt therapy easily, simply and in the comfort of your own home.
The clinically tested salt pipe is a handy porcelain pipe filled with salt crystals from the Transylvanian Praid salt mine.
Its salty microclimate calms and cleanses the cells of the respiratory system.

When using the pipe, the moisture of the passing air absorbs the micron sized particles of the salt, then penetrates into your respiratory system to achieve the beneficial effects. The sodium content of the active ingredient induces natural self-cleansing mechanisms that flush away the impurities from the surface of the cells.

Salt particles also mechanically clean the air passages.
Just a few minutes or regular daily use can be of major benefit not only to asthma, hay fever and allergy sufferers, smokers and snorers but can also help overcome stuffiness, persistent coughing, shortness of breath, and wheeziness during colds, flu and other infections and neutralise the daily damaging effects of air pollution, dust, smog, fog and secondary cigarette smoke.

Many people ask us if it ok with high blood pressure as salt isn't known to be a good thing to take with high blood pressure, answer is fine, just like gargling with salt helps a sore throat, salt can be good for you, the same principal applies.

Himalayan Salt For your Bath

The Many Benefits of Himalayan Crystal Bath Salts
Use Salt Water Baths or Soaks to Help Revitalize Your Body
A brine bath is a terrific way to revitalize your body by soothing skin.

Himalayan Bath Salt
Your skin is an excretive organ that mirrors the condition of your intestines. When you take a brine bath, the salt minerals help your skin in the form of ions. Bio-energetic weak points will be balanced and your body's energy flow will be activated.
To get the full benefits of a natural crystal salt bath, the right salt concentration is critical. The salt concentration has to be at least the same as the one of your body fluids (approximately 1%) to activate the osmotic exchange ratio. The formula for a 1% solution is 1.28 ounces of salt per gallon of water.
Since a full tub normally takes from 100 to 120 liters (27-32 gallons) of water, at least 1.2 kg. (2.6 pounds) of natural salt is required.
To avoid using body energy to balance the temperature, the water should be approximately 37° Celsius (97° Fahrenheit). Your bath will remain at a constant temperature because the biophysical composition of the salt is so strong - it causes the molecules to move in a constant rhythm.
Do not use any bath additives, soaps, or oils.
Your bath should last 20 to 30 minutes. During this time, the temperature and the makeup of the brine bath is comparable to the amniotic fluid in which the embryo floats in the prenatal state.
Do not shower off, simply dry off with a towel.
After your brine bath, you should rest for at least 30 minutes.
WARNING: While brine baths have a positive effect, they are also demanding on your circulatory system. If you suffer from weak or poor heart circulation, always consult your doctor first.

Their job is to make money!

How about this :

Natural Foods Contain Cancer Preventive Properties26/07/2007

For years, ever since cancer has become a disease afflicting vast numbers of the world population, the means of prevention and cure has been seen to rest with the big pharmaceutical companies and their research.
Big pharma works on the premise that the prevention of cancer or any illness requires the killing of the relevant pathogen responsible and the illness will go away. This approach carries with it risks of side effects.
There have been several studies that reveal that many foods contain cancer-preventive properties. All one need to do is find out which food contains which phytonutrients with known anti-cancer properties. By choosing the relevant foods, which are mostly fruits and vegetables, your health can be maintained. If a particular ingredient is lacking, it can be added as a pure substance in the form of a supplement.
KP Stoller, MD President of the Hyperbaric Medical Center of New Mexico said:
"There are many nutraceuticals that have both cancer preventive and cancer suppressive properties. You will not hear about them if you do not go out of your way to review the scientific literature, or have access to those that do so. Salt in your sandwhich?

New survey uncovers high levels of salt in sandwiches

A new survey has revealed today that your lunchtime sandwich could increase your chances of developing high blood pressure, which in turn could put you more at risk of a heart attack or stroke.
The survey carried out by Consensus Action on Salt and Health (CASH) - the UK's leading experts on salt and health - has revealed that one in five shop bought sandwiches contain more than 3 grams of salt per serving - half of the total recommended daily intake for an adult.
More than 40 per cent of the 250 sandwiches surveyed contained over 2.5 grams (half a teaspoon) of salt. The two highest levels were found to be from Safeway's 'The Best' range - Smoked Salmon and Crème Fraiche and Chicken Caesar, which were said to contain 6.4 grams and 5.9 grams respectively.
Current UK guidelines state that adults should limit their salt intake to no more than 6 grams per day - and preferably less - to reduce their risk of developing high blood pressure which is a key factor in stroke and heart disease.
If the majority of the population reduced their salt intake by half this could save 35,000 lives a year and prevent a further 35,000 people suffering a devastating heart attack or stroke.
Chairman of CASH and the Blood Pressure Association, Professor Graham MacGregor, says, "Many people think sandwiches are a healthy lunch option but as the results of this survey show us, in no way can these sandwiches be described as healthy. In addition, many people buy a packet of crisps with their sandwiches at lunchtime, which then increases their lunchtime salt intake to approximately 7-8 grams. This means that the average worker will consume just over 1 day's recommended maximum salt intake in just 1 hour."
"I would like to see sandwiches with a high level of salt, ie, more than 2.5 grams of salt per serving - carry a health warning. At the very least they must be labelled so that people can make an informed choice about what they are eating."

Asthma? try a salt pipe!

Polish doctor called F Bochkowsky noticed something very unusual about his patients in the small mining town where he worked. Almost to a man, they never seemed to suffer from respiratory symptoms, such as asthma, allergies and hay fever. He discovered that the salty moist disinfectant air inside the mines absorbed the tiny salt particles that penetrated their respiratory system. His discovery – made back in 1843 – has been vindicated in a range of scientific trials by Dr Sarolta Mesko and Dr Margit Szekely, who used a simple device called the Breath Easy Salt pipe. To order yours, please click on the link:http://www.crystalrocksaltlamp.com/site/1351713/page/888931Today thousands of people with respiratory problems visit the region where Dr Bochkowsky practised all those years ago – just to ‘take the air’ in the mines.Similar salt mines – in Solzbad, Austria and Praid in Romania – have been turned into sanatoriums where people can breathe in the magical healing air.But the trip costs them thousands of pounds – and yet the same benefits are available to you, from your armchair. To read more, and to discover how the Salt Pipe could help your respiratory problems, please click on the link:http://www.crystalrocksaltlamp.com/site/1351713/page/888931Remarkably, these dramatic improvements were achieved in just two weeks of using the Salt Pipe.Dr Szekely recorded that the Salt Pipe:· significantly improves a person’s ability to breathe out· this trapped mucus in the windpipes, so reducing the chances of night coughing· prevents and reduces night suffocation, one of the main causes of snoring· makes breathing much easier.

Nothing to do with salt lamps

A friend of mine had a room full of flies and a very bad smell. In her search for the source of the smell she found six dead crows up the chimney!
Being, like myself, a person who does no like to use chemical in any shape or form ( in this case an Air spray): she used the following :
Place a small bowl of vinegar in a room to absorb bad smells - especially the smell of smoke and animals. You can also wipe things over with white vinegar or use it in a spray.

Smoking is bad news

Smoking is bad news:
· 390,000 American people die from the effects of smoking each year.
· Men are 22 times more likely to develop lung cancer by smoking
· Women are 12 times more likely.
· It cost a lot of money
· It is unsociable
· You stink and so does you house and clothes

Just to show you that I know what I am talking about: I used to smoke 60 a day and stopped just like that. I did it…you can do it. I am not saying that it is easy, but it can be done and you will feel much better for it.
Make a list of reasons why you want to stop smoking. This will mean very different things to different people, but if you know what you want from stopping, it could help you through the most difficult moments.
A very important part of this is to know what you would gain and what you would lose from stopping smoking.

To stop smoking need not cost you any money. Do it my way and believe me it will change you life. First let us diverse a bit and talk about your mind.

Your mind is made up of two parts
-the conscious, This is the part of your mind that makes judgments, comparisons it is the awake bit of you, the part you are using to read this,
and the unconscious or subconscious which is best illustrated as a three year old genie.

Your subconscious mind is a very resourceful and efficient tool.
· The subconscious can not determine right from wrong
· It does not judge.
· The more precise you want the outcome, the more efficient the subconscious mind can become.

Just imagine saying to a three year old child the way to boil an egg - "Stand in boiling water for three minutes". The unfortunate child would try to get his feet in the pan.
You have to be very precise with such directions because a three year old doesn't think – he/she accepts.

In exactly the same way your subconscious mind doesn't think. It's thinking is the job of the conscious mind. Thinking is a conscious activity. The subconscious mind just accepts and does. So it needs clear and explicit instructions. No maybes, its, or buts.

So what does it do this subconscious mind? Just what it is told to do and you do that in as clear a manner as possible.

I hope you are getting the picture as to how this will stop you smoking. So read on there is a bit more yet.
There are rules to this “ telling your subconscious “ what to do. I will keep this very simple for the sake of this article ( in this field there is a whole book ) after all , what you want to do is Stop Smoking.

The Rules:
Be precise
Must be positive. Through study it is know that the subconscious mind only accepts positive commands, not negative equivalents. If there is something you want to be rid of, phase it positively. You must leave out words like “give up” “not” “never”
Write down exactly what you want. Part of the reason why we write down our commands is to create a set of instructions for our subconscious mind to carry out.
Must be written in the first person “I”…I have…I am
The command must be read at least twice a day. Preferably rewritten
After each reading visualize you life with the command achieved.
Do not tell anyone about what you are doing. They will ridicule you and give your reasons why it will not work. This will pull you down.

Do not “Give up smoking” But “ I live a health lifestyle and see myself as a healthy person”

These techniques are used by all sorts of people for all sorts of reasons. People who are achievers. Do not simply scribble something down on a piece of paper and hope it will work.

You have two choices:

Put your whole commitment behind it and get in the right frame of mind to face the challenge.
Continue as you are and become one of the 390,000 American people who die from the effects of smoking each year.

Benefits of Salt Lamps

Lots of people swear by the salt crystal's healing capability, laying claim of relief from the common cold, the curing of skin problems, mental health disorders, respiratory illness, headaches, migraines and much more. These original salt lamps are the most exquisite and naturally pure lights now made. A heated salt crystal lamp will attract water molecules from the air, forming a NaCl and H20 solution. Sodium is a positive ion, and Chloride, a negative ion. Hydrogen has a two part negative charge and Oxygen is a positively charged ion. These ions create a reaction of two positive ions and three negative ions. After canceling each other out, one lone negative ion is produced. This negative ion seeks out the first positive ion like a dust, or bacteria particle and zaps it. This is the process of positive ion reduction and is how our Himalayan Salt Lamps work.

Apple juice for Asthma

By Anne Harding
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) -
Drinking apple juice from concentrate daily may help ward off asthma symptoms in children, a study from the UK hints.
In a previous study, Dr. Seif O. Shaheen of the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London and colleagues found that eating apples seemed to protect adults from developing asthma symptoms. A number of other studies have linked higher fruit consumption to better lung function.
It's possible that the antioxidants contained in fruit counteract harmful oxidative stress due to pollution and ease inflammation, thus reducing asthma symptoms, Shaheen explained. And the antioxidant content of apples is particularly high, the researcher added.

Shaheen's team analyzed fruit intake and asthma symptoms in 2,640 children aged 5 to 10 years.
While there was no association between asthma symptoms and apples, children who drank apple juice from concentrate at least once a day were at 47 percent lower risk of wheezing than children who drank apple juice less than once a month. "That's a bit of a puzzle," Shaheen said, adding that it is possible that juice might have a higher antioxidant concentration than fruit.
Shaheen urges caution in interpreting the study results. "It would be wrong to say that our data suggest that drinking apple juice reduces the risk of asthma," the researcher said in an interview. "We've only shown an association, and we've yet to provide definitive evidence that the link is causal."
The study also found that children who ate bananas at least once daily, compared to those who ate them less than once a month, were also at significantly lower risk of wheezing. But given that the fruit have never been associated with asthma symptoms previously, Shaheen said, this finding is "less convincing."
The investigators followed up with the same group of children a year later and are currently analyzing the results. If the association persists, Shaheen said, the next step would be to conduct a clinical trial of the effect of apple juice consumption on asthma symptoms.

Salt pipes

Salt pipes are quite popular in Europe, and can be used by anyone anywhere. Salt pipes are new to the market place and have just been patented. However salt pipes are unproven and although we have excellent (and safe) inhalers available for asthma sufferes, do keep using your regular inhalers. It has been reported by some some users that after a few months of Salt Pipe use they were able to stop the use of inhalers.

It involves you inhaling very small amounts of salt and is based on the fact that 18th century Polish salt mine workers didn’t fall ill with respiratory disease. Unfortunately, such observations don’t represent a clinical trial, but the salt used does contain concentrated mineral extract of halite. Very tiny amounts of halite salt will be inhaled each day and this apparently helps the respiratory system substantially. There have been no adverse reactions reported and in some ways, if the manufacturers are to be believed and only tiny amounts of salt actually get into the lungs, then it should be a very safe thing to use.

Some thing very sad

I'm going to start today with something very sad, but very important. A 4-year old British girl was abducted from her bedroom while on vacation in Portugal with her parents. The details are all over the news, so I'm not going to go into them more here. Suffice it to say that after nearly two weeks she has not been found and there appear to be few clues as to what happened to her. As a parent I can't begin to imagine what little Madeleine's family are going through. There seems to be a good possibility that she was abducted to order and may have had her appearance changed. She could, by now, be almost anywhere in the world. Little Madeleine has one very distinctive feature that is extremely rare, and would be very difficult to disguise. She has what is known as a 'flash' in her right eye - the black part of her pupil extends out into the color of her iris. You can read more about the story and see a picture of Madeleine at the BBC news site here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6652611.stm Whoever has Madeleine can change her hair length and color and do other things to disguise her, but they can't change that very rare flash in her eye. So if you see a child with such a distinctive marking, please don't hesitate. Contact your local police immediately. Better to risk a few false alarms if they might help reunite Madeleine with her family.

A Juice for a Fast:

Here is a suggestion for a juice that is good to drink during a fast. Juice these ingredients together- three carrots, three kale leaves, two celery stalks, two beets, one turnip, 1/4 pound of spinach, 1/2 head of cabbage, 1/4 bunch of parsley and a 1/2 clove of garlic. If you do not own a juicer then what you can do instead is to place all of the vegetables listed here in a pure vegetable broth and then boil them gently, but do not add any type of seasonings to them. You can substitute this homemade juice for any of the other kinds previously listed. Save all of the vegetables that were used in the making of the broth to consume after your fast is finished. Keep in mind that no solid food is allowed during the course of the fast. However if you must eat something then consume a slice of watermelon by itself or else make fresh applesauce in a blender or food processor. Always keep the skins on the apples and never cook them. Of course if you do not want to go to the bother of making your own juice for a fast you can always use Aloe Vera: try this site to buy some www.aloveraexpress.com

Water: who needs it!

Today in the UK it is 75f which is quite warm for this time of year...lovely..but you must drink water
Becoming a water drinker on a consistent basis will provide a boast to your energy level and it will improve both your mental as well as your physical performance on a day-to-day scale. Drinking plenty of water helps the immune system and toxins are carried out of the body at a much faster rate with the help of this "wonder drug." People who drink lots of water report less headaches and fewer incidences of fainting or dizziness and respiratory problems such as flu's and colds are decreased with the help of water.

It is relevant to note that a person is dehydrated by the time their brain registers thirst. When dehydration takes over, blood takes on a thicker consistency and the body therefore has to work a great deal harder to move blood through the system. When this happens, the brain is less able to focus and concentrate on the work at hand and less activity is noted in the brain's cells. The body then becomes tired and sluggish and this makes getting things done much more difficult.

Easter: What is it all about?

Chocolate eggs, fluffy bunnies, hot cross buns? What does Easter mean to you?

Where do all these additions to a serious religious festival come from anyway?

To answer that, we have to look at the very beginnings of Christianity.
The early Church faced two problems: how to convert people who didn't really want to be converted, and, how to avoid being persecuted in the mean time. They came up with a clever and very practical solution.
Wherever possible, the early Christians adjusted their festival days to coincide with feast days of the other religions. This helped both problems.
Firstly it meant that they didn't stand out by celebrating when everyone else was hard at work, and second, by sharing feast days, and taking on a lot of the existing trappings of celebration, they de-mystified themselves and appeared more like regular folk.
Easter is an excellent example.

The Christians needed a special day to celebrate the resurrection - just about the most important day in the Church calendar. Luckily, the pagans, who populated most of Europe in the 2nd century and earlier, celebrated a spring renewal festival in the name of one of their goddesses, Eastre.

So the early church missionaries made a takeover bid and subsumed the Saxon feast day to their own ends. The Church liked order, though, and Eastre was celebrated variously on all sorts of days of the week. So, in AD 325 at the famous Council of Nicaea, a new 'Easter Rule' was declared stating that Easter would always fall on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the vernal equinox.

To them, this was imposing order! Simply put, it meant that Easter would now always fall on a Sunday, between March 22nd and April 25th. Although different branches of the Church have tried to change the dating of Easter at various times in history, this rule still generally applies today, almost 1700 years later.

The Easter bunny may seem like a particularly modern invention, but in fact, predates Christianity by millennia.
The Saxon goddess Eastre was the same lady that the Babylonians and Assyrians worshipped as Ishtar and the Phoenicians as Astarte. This many-named deity had as her earthly symbol, a hare. In fact, unlikely as it seems, the Easter bunny and Easter eggs are bound together in the same ancient tradition.
Legend had it that in order to impress some children, Eastre changed her pet bird into a hare for them. The hare then proceeded to lay colored eggs. That would have impressed me!This story also explains why eggs are so inextricably linked to Easter. Eggs as icons of rebirth date back into prehistory.
Certainly, the Egyptians buried eggs in their tombs and the Greeks put them on top of graves. But the giving of colored eggs as spring tokens seems to have started with the genetically modified hare that Eastre created.
The early Christians couldn't be seen to take all of the pagan beliefs unquestioningly, so they got their own PR gurus to come up with a suitable Christian tradition to explain the colored eggs.
The Church said that Simon of Cyrene, the kind soul who helped Jesus to carry his cross to Calvary was an egg merchant. When he returned home to his farm after witnessing Christ's death he found that all the eggs laid that day had miraculously turned into a rainbow of colors. Although few records exist from early centuries to prove that early Christians kept the tradition, it seems likely.

Surviving records from the accounts of the court of King Edward I show that in 1290 he ordered 450 eggs to be hand colored and coated in gold leaf to be distributed as gifts to members of his household.
Easter egg hunts, loved by children everywhere, had a much more sinister beginning.

In dark age Europe, it was an annual tradition for men to go hunting through the forests looking for eggs bearing specific patterns on their shells. Such an egg, when found, was much prized as a magical talisman. As belief in magic declined, the hunt continued but now with colored eggs being hidden in advance.
I don't know ... a Cadbury's Cream Egg is still pretty magical to me!

The hare symbol may well have died out were it not for the Germanic Saxons who kept the image going through their own folklore.
When many Germans moved to Pennsylvania in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries they brought their traditions with them.
At the time, American Christianity was very puritan and the idea of colored eggs and fluffy bunnies was far too frivolous. But after the Civil War, the nation needed a symbol of rebirth and so the celebration of Easter became more widespread along with a relaxation of dogma.Frivolity had come of age.
At the same Council of Nicaea, in AD 325, it was also decided that the cross would be the official symbol of Christianity. It was a good thing too, because Christian folk had been using the sign for ages, unofficially.

Which brings us to hot cross buns.A modern culinary treat? Not in the least! They were the official food of the festival of good old Eastre way back before the Christians had anything to do with it.
The word 'bun' comes from the Saxon 'boun' which means 'sacred ox'. At the ceremony an ox was sacrificed and little cakes whose top was scored with the sign of the ox's horns were passed to the celebrants. As this was such an integral part of the pagan feast, the Christians kept the cake, but moved one of the lines on top so it was less of a 'V' and more of an 'X'. Anyway, hot vee buns doesn't have quite the same ring.
Interestingly, in the archeological digs at Herculaneum, the city destroyed with Pompeii in AD 79, hot cross buns have been found still in the baker's ovens.Only not quite so hot anymore.
Of course, in those early days, the recipe lacked currants and raisins, and sticky glazed frosting hadn't been invented. But the thought was there.

Which came first, the bunny or the egg?
As far as candy treats are concerned, it must be the bunny. Those Germans who made it to Pennsylvania can be blamed for much of the tooth decay that happens at this time of year.
In the early 18th century, they used to make elaborate confections from pastry and sugar in the shape of a rabbit to celebrate Easter.
The earliest known chocolate eggs were made in France and Germany in the early 19th century. Before then, eating chocolate was not able to be molded.
The first truly modern chocolate egg was not made until 1875, when John Cadbury introduced them to his range.

So, this Easter, as you are enjoying your candies and cakes, spare a thought for the goddess Eastre, for the early Christians, desperate to spread their word and avoid persecution and for tradition-bound Germans.

Without them all, our modern-day celebrations would be very different.

But most of all, remember who this is all in aid of. Without Him, it would all be rather pointless. _______________________________________________________

How to breath correctly

Hi, hope you all had a good weekend.
I had to buy a new bulb for my salt lamp: normally I pay about £1.20 but I thought that I would look on line, and I found some for 50p each with free postage.....less then half price.Always worth looking around.

Before we go too far into Natural Healing I thought that we should have a look at breathing:

There is so much more to breathing then most people realize. There are two methods of breathing, which are breathing from the chest and breathing from the diaphragm. For those who do not know this, the diaphragm is a muscle that is located in the lower abdominal area. We are generally taught to breath from our chests but this results in irregular, shallow breathing that is slow and causes carbon dioxide to leave the lungs too quickly which can create more tension in both the body and the mind. Diaphragm breathing is healthier and more beneficial to the body. In this case breathing is even and consistent and more breaths are taken in and can be breathed deeper into the lungs, which is a good thing.

Deep breathing does not just involve the lungs but also the lower ribcage, the back and the stomach. Diaphragm breathing creates a response from the nervous system that is called the "relaxation response" for the simple fact that it allows the body to calm and to become relaxed completely. We were all meant to be diaphragm breathing and if you watch babies and young children closely you will see that they have it right. Youngsters breathe from deep down in their diaphragms and they use their entire lung capacity. When you see a baby's stomach rise when he or she is sleeping it is because the breathing is coming from deep down in the body. This is how nature intended it to be but as we age we tend to become more stressed and this affects how we breathe.
See you tomorrow

Natural healing

salt lamps are very much apart of Natural Healing and so on this blog we will look at that field for the next two or three weeks: with Articles....reviews of wbesites....useful books and tips and every now and then a bargin product for you to pick.
We will start with an article that explains what natural healing might be!

Natural healing is a form of alternative medicine. Natural health is defined as an "eclectic self-care system of natural therapies concerned with building and restoring health and wellness via prevention and healthy lifestyles." Natural healing takes in many aspects and many disciplines of alternative medicine including diet and exercise, acupuncture, acupressure, relaxation methods (such as yoga and Tai Chi), herbalism, homeopathy, massage therapy, naturopathy, natural hygiene, ayurveda medicine, aromatherapy, Kneipp therapy, nutripathy, sauna and a variety of others.

It was not until the late 20th century that the term natural healing found its way into the western world. However many of the basic beliefs of natural healing first came out of Europe where it got is start. Natural, alternative therapies always were and continue to be, very common in many part of Europe and in fact many of these therapies are encouraged by medical practitioners and are covered, or partially covered, by health insurance plans.

Have you seen one?

Beautiful and Unusual Natural Gift for your loved ones!

Himalayan Crystal Salt Lamps.

Have you ever seen them before? Salt crystal rocks are natural formations that have been mined in Europe and Asia. When used in lamps and candles, they work as natural air ionizers and improve the air quality in a room by enriching the air with negative ions. They are naturally effective – and beautiful – each piece is hand carved and radiates a soft glowing light.
